Go Green–everybody is doin’ it…

recycle_logo.jpgI am skeptical lately when trying to read through the clutter of corporate communication’s green initiatives. I can’t tell who is genuinely green and who is just faking it. Even Wal-Mart is challenging all of their suppliers to lessen their footprint on the world by reducing their greenhouse gas emissions.

Don’t get me wrong. I think going green is great, but aren’t we a little late. Global warming is here–and here to stay.

Well, I guess I can still do my part. First on my post graduation ‘to do’ list is to buy a hybrid car- probably a Prius. (I speak for the majority when I say it’s because of high gas prices.) I’ll have to wait and see how far that first big paycheck will go.

To Gen Y green is the new black.
I am not alone in this green thinking. A recent poll shows that 47 percent of Gen Y shoppers are willing to pay more for environmentally friendly products.

Retailers are finding that acting responsibly toward the windmill.jpgenvironment can help build brand loyalty. They are trying everything from solar-powered stores to selling more energy efficient light bulbs.

Green is good in moderation.
According an article in the International Herald Tribune, the state of California sued six car companies. California claims that the companies account for more than 30 percent of the state’s carbon dioxide emissions.

The suit claimed that the emissions were a public nuisance and sought billions of dollars in damages.

Really, California? Last time I checked, those were your citizens behind the wheel.

Like I said, I’ll take responsibility for my own emissions and get a Prius–or I guess I should find that big kid job first.
